Jesuit Facts

Discernment is the nexus where prayer and action meet. It is a sifting of spiritual movements within oneself in order to recognize and choose between good and evil, and secondly to recognize and choose between the good and the greater good in a state of interior detachment and spiritual freedom.

President's Welcome

Dear Alumni & Friends of St Paul’s:

Fr. Alan Fogarty, S.J

On behalf of the faculty and staff, I would like to welcome you to St Paul's and thank you for taking the time to visit our site. If you are here you are probably trying to learn something of who we are and what we do – what makes St Paul's what it is today. To help you begin to understand St Paul's I must begin by saying our most important asset is our people. From our distinguished alumni and friends, whose overwhelming support is demonstrated daily, to our current students and their families, we live and work in a safe and caring environment that supports the education of the whole person. Complementing an excellent academic formation, students at St Paul's engage in numerous co- and extra-curricular activities that far exceed a mid-afternoon dismissal time. All of this comes from strong and balanced teacher/student mentoring that sees our young men through to graduation and beyond.

St Paul's High School is part of a five century old world-wide network of Jesuit schools. As a Catholic school, St Paul's seeks the magis (the more) in the Ignatian way. The pursuit of constant quality improvement in our discerned choices is rooted in tradition and the spiritual insights of the founder of the Society of Jesus, St Ignatius Loyola, and his Spiritual Exercises. Gathered together as a community under the banner of Christ, we strive to emulate and follow the Man for Others. With a preferential option for the poor, we work as a community in collaboration with one another and the grace of God. Each person is called to express their God-given dignity by developing their talents in the context of a Christian community that is open to the religions and peoples of the world.

As a community of students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, alumni parents and friends, St Paul's is an apostolic work of the Jesuits in English Canada the mission of which is to form young men who are engaged with the world through a love of Christ and in a life-long dialogue with society and culture while finding God in all things. Such discovery is achieved through living out the Graduate at Graduation that challenges us to be: Open to Growth, Intellectually Competent, Loving, Religious and Committed to Doing Justice. As life-long learners, we pray to become people of conscience, competence and compassion who work ad majorem Dei gloriam–to the greater glory of God.

Again I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of you who may be thinking of applying to St Paul's and to all those who are faithful friends of the school.

In Christ
