So that our Admissions Committee can have a broader and more personal basis for consideration of admission, we request online recommendations from both a clergy member and current teacher (Math, English/Social Studies, Science or French).
These recommendations provide pertinent information regarding the prospective student’s academic and personal qualities and their involvement in the community. They are an important and valuable part of the St. Paul’s admissions process.
All students applying for Grade 9 and Grade 10 must write an entrance test. The entrance test is a 2.5-hour, primarily multiple-choice test that is designed to assess the ability of students in mathematics, reading and comprehension, and writing.
Applicants are offered a choice of three possible dates for writing the test. Please indicate your preference in the designated area on the online Application Form.
All applicants are granted an interview. Applicants will be contacted by email in February or March to schedule the interview.
An Important Note:
The Admissions Committee will not schedule an interview until the file is complete. It is the responsibility of the applicant’s family to ensure that all required documents have been sent to the Admissions Office in a timely manner.

The goal of a St. Paul's education is to form graduates to become lifelong learners who are open to growth, intellectually competent, loving, religious, and committed to doing justice. St. Paul's challenges students to pursue excellence in all aspects of their education, providing a balanced approach which includes academic, extracurricular and spiritual programs. Accordingly, the admissions criteria represents a balance between academic, spiritual and social considerations.
If a candidate is consistently an A-B student, then he will be given favorable consideration for admission. Conduct and effort marks are also given consideration.
Students applying for grades 9 and 10 are required to write the Entrance Test. The Entrance Test is a standardized test designed to measure the applicants proficiency in English, mathematics, and general reasoning.
Teacher recommendation forms are an important part of the admissions process. These recommendations are confidential.
If a candidate attends a Catholic school, then he will be given favorable consideration for admission. Last year 47% of accepted students came from Catholic schools, and more than 85% of applicants from Catholic schools were accepted.
If a candidate is an active member of a Catholic parish he will be given favourable consideration for admission. Students who are not Catholic but actively practice their faith are also given favourable consideration for admission to St Paul's High School.
Clergy recommendation forms are an important part of the admissions process. These recommendations are confidential.
Additional consideration will be given to students who are actively involved in activities both inside and outside their school communities.
These activities could include involvement in: music, theatre, or dance; individual or team athletics; cultural activities; and volunteer or service activities.
Letters of recommendation for a candidate are accepted but not required.
The St. Paul's community is enhanced by and benefits from a diverse population that includes students from many different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. St. Paul's understands that families with lower incomes may have difficulty affording tuition and is proud to offer an extensive bursary program that assists qualified applicants to attend regardless of their ability to pay the full tuition.
Students who have a brother or father who has attended St. Paul's High School will be given additional consideration.
