On January 16, 2018, Winnipeg will be host to the relics of the most famous missionary in the history of the Catholic Church, St. Francis Xavier, one of the founding members of the Society of Jesus.
This famous relic, the forearm which legendarily baptized tens of thousands of people, ordinarily resides in the Church of the Gesu, the titular church of the Society of Jesus in Rome. But through the sponsorship of Archbishop Terence Prendergast, S.J., Archbishop of Ottawa, and Catholic Christian Outreach, a campus-based youth formation group, the relic is making a pilgrimage across Canada. It will be in Winnipeg for one day, January 16, with events scheduled at St. Mary's Cathedral, 353 St. Mary Avenue.
