June 1, 2021

To the Class of 2021, Parents and Guardians:

In collaboration with Public Health, Manitoba Education has provided further direction and guidance to school divisions and independent schools in planning modified graduation ceremonies and festivities; as follows:

  • schools hosting modified graduation ceremonies must adhere to all public health orders and guidelines:
  • schools could consider postponing graduation celebrations until the Fall.
  • schools may consider virtual ceremonies, ‘drive-up’ or ‘drive-in’ vehicle ceremonies.
  • and must minimize interactions between school staff and graduates and plan for a zero-contact event by:
    • pre-recording messages.
    • placing diplomas on a table for graduates to retrieve.
    • minimize the number of school employees required to host the event.
    • ensuring photographers and videographers adhere to public health orders, and
    • ensure there is no mingling in groups or waiting in lines.

With respect to the dynamic and everchanging Public Health Orders (PHO), St. Paul’s remains committed to celebrating this momentous occasion for our graduands. As such, please note the following reminders and/or changes:

Grad Mass – June 13 | 10:00 a.m:

The June 13th Grad Mass at 10:00 a.m. remains as scheduled. We are awaiting an updated Public Health Order announcement so that we may determine what format will be supported. At this time, it will likely be a Livestream virtual event.

Ernie Ostermann Golf Tournament – Tentatively Moved to June 23:

Due to the Public Health Orders, Rossmere Country Club can no longer host the Ernie Ostermann Golf Tournament set for June 10th, and unfortunately, cannot reschedule.

St. Paul’s High School is attempting to reschedule the event to June 23rd at St. Boniface Golf Club; details will be provided when they become available.

Mother-Son Mass & Ceremony – Rescheduled to June 25:

The Mother-Son Mass and Ceremony was re-scheduled for Friday, June 25th, but the time may need to be adjusted to the afternoon. We are looking at a format and a location that will maximize in-person attendance as permitted by the PHOs. More information to follow. After polling both students and their mothers, we are going to keep Friday, August 27th, as the final placeholder date for this event if required.

Convocation - June 29:

Convocation is scheduled for Tuesday, June 29th at 1:00 p.m. We are looking at a format and location that will maximize in-person attendance as permitted by the PHOs. More information to follow.

Congratulations to Elected Grad Speakers:

The following students have been elected by their peers to serve as speakers in upcoming graduation ceremonies:

  • Kieran Light ’21 - Salutatorian (Mother-Son)
  • Andrew Stasiuk ’21 - Tree Planting Orator (Mother-Son)
  • Emmanuel-David Kwilu-Kama ’21 - Valedictorian (Convocation)

Congratulations, gentlemen!

In addition, Sandy Miller (Parent from the Class of 2024) of Pattison Outdoor Advertising has graciously donated some billboard placements around Winnipeg to celebrate the Class of 2021. Starting June 14, keep an eye out for your shoutout!

Gentlemen, please know that not a day has gone by that we have not been thinking about you and praying for you. We are going to do whatever we can to celebrate your success, albeit in the midst of the changing Public Health Orders.

You will have quite a story to share with your kids and at future Alumni Reunions! Keep looking after yourselves, each other and your families.

We’ve got this! AMDG! God bless.
