On 12 and 13 May 2010, Alumni gathered in Ottawa and Toronto for their respective Regional Chapter – President’s Meetings. Over the years, the chapter meetings have created a loyal group of new and returning members spanning many generations – from the class of ’42 to 2009. Attendees were excited to hear about St Paul’s and continue to foster the friendships they’ve created at St Paul’s, many years after graduating. During the wine and cheese receptions, a video of the school was shown and President, Fr Alan Fogarty SJ, offered remarks on the current status of the school and the many exciting events that have recently taken place and that are up coming in the near future. Director of Advancement & Alumni Affairs, Shawn Alwis ’00, encouraged attendees to join the online community, visit the Crusader Shoppe online and provided information on two exciting programs – Adopt-a-Student and the Legacy Society.
Feedback from alumni was positive. Many happy and excited to hear about present day St Paul’s. Mr Patrick Miekle ’59 reflected on his class’ 50th Anniversary Reunion, which took place last year, and encouraged all attendees to visit the school and participate in as many of the Alumni events as possible – especially the 10th, 25th and 50th year reunions.
A big thank you goes out to Borden Ladner Gervais LLP and their associate Paul Taylor ’02 and partner Vince DeRose ’90 for hosting this year’s Ottawa Chapter meeting and Paul Van Walleghem ’89 and Michael Boehm ’92 for acting as Ottawa area co-chairs and assisting in the planning and marketing of the event. Thank you also to Patrick O’Toole ’71, Chair for the Toronto Chapter meeting, for his efforts in encouraging attendance of Alumni in the region.
