Recent St Paul's graduate Quinn Horton ’12 helped Canada beat the USA 23 – 17 in the final game of the International Federation of American Football Under 19 (IFAF U19) World Championship at Burger Stadium in Austin, Texas on 7 July 2012.
After losing to the American team 41 to 3 in the final game of the championships in 2010, Quinn, the only Manitoban on the national junior team this year, helped to avenge this loss and take the gold.
“We had one goal and one goal in mind and that was to come back with a Gold Medal around our neck,” said Noel Thorpe, Canadian Team Coach in a press release. “It was a hell of a game. It came down to an onside kick. It doesn’t get any closer than that.”
“Both teams played hard,” said Steve Specht, Team USA head coach. “There was ebb and flow. They just made one more play than we did. Give Canada credit. They played a heck of a game.”
St Paul’s also gives Team Canada credit and cheers Crusader Quinn Horton ’12 --- congratulations!
