The Education of Youth Committee of the English Canada Province held their annual meeting, March 1 - 4, in Regina, SK, generously hosted by Mother Teresa Middle School. This committee groups together the Presidents, Principals, and some faculty members from the five Jesuit schools across Canada.
On the first day the focus was on diversity in our schools and was highlighted by our participation in a Blanket Exercise at the First Nations University on the campus of the University of Regina. This interactive exercise tells the history of the indigenous peoples of Canada and the effect of colonization on their cultures and their way of life. It was effectively 500 years of history compressed into an hour and a half.
The second day included a delightful visit to MTMS where we were welcomed by the Buffalo Boys drumming group (see the previous edition of Quick Clicks) and interacted over lunch with the Gr. 6 students.
Fr. Bill Muller, SJ, Executive Director of the Jesuit Schools Network, joined us for the entire time and shared with the group some of the important developments in JSN.
