The young, but rapidly improving Crusader Wrestling Team had a very successful Friday and Saturday at Kelvin High School's wrestling tournament this past weekend. With a large field of wrestlers from the Junior High and High School ranks in Manitoba and Northern Ontario, St Paul's left with a solid medal count. No team points were kept in this tournament.
St Paul's had outstanding performances from several people including a stellar performance from grade 9 David Dy who won gold in the Jr High competition and took 4th in his class for High School. Other notables were a first ever gold medal performance from grade 12 Derrick Kolly and a first time medal (bronze) for grade 12, Shawn Ewacha.
Grade 9's Daniel Meyers was successful in capturing the 39kg Jr. High gold medal and Steve Stone took the bronze in the 53 kg Jr High class.
As always the team was anchored by the leadership and performance of Martyn Langstaff who captured gold in the 76 kg High School weight class. Grade 10 James Dunn battled hard to take the 53 kg bronze medal to round out the student medals for the Crusaders.
Coach Dan Gange wrestled in the adult division and won the bronze in the 76 kg class while posting only a single loss on the weekend.
Special thanks to all the coaches and Ms Gina Kirkpatrick for their time and effort on the weekend. Pictures are posted on this community site.
