The Crusaders faced some tough competition in the first game against the #2 Nationally ranked Gonzaga Jesuit Prep Eagles from Washington DC. Lack of experience showed for the Cru as they were defeated in their first game 35-0. The Crusaders playing for the first time as a team and for the first time outside, showed moments of promise but the Eagles in their 9th game of their season took advantage of rusty defensive play and Crusader miscues.
In their second game of the tournament the Crusaders faced Xavier NY. In a back and forth struggle the Crusaders gave up several late penalties and allowed the New Yorkers to tie it up late 12-12. Although disappointed by the tie, the Crusaders showed tremendous growth in their second match.
The games were followed by a beautiful mass at the historical St. Aloysius Church on the Gonzaga campus and a BBQ with all the teams, coaches and parents.
The Cru will play Jesuit Dallas Sunday.
Poor weather has not dampened our spirits as the Cru loved their visits to the White House and Smithsonians on Friday and look forward to our other tours on Sunday and Monday.
