Release Date 7 January 2013, St Paul’s High School, News Release
On 22 December, Rev Alan J Fogarty SJ, was formally appointed President of the Gregorian University Foundation. The President of the Gregorian University Foundation oversees the fundraising operations of the Consortium of three Jesuit institutes of higher education in Rome: the Pontifical Gregorian University, the Pontifical Biblical Institute and the Pontifical Oriental Institute. The recent 35th General Congregation (2008) declared that the interprovincial institutions in Rome are among the five global apostolic preferences of the Society of Jesus requiring ‘special or privileged attention’ as ‘a special mission received directly from the Holy Father’.
Fr Fogarty will succeed Rev Robert O’Toole SJ, former Rector of the Pontifical Biblical Institute, who has held the position for the past nine years. After months of discussions Fr Fogarty was made available for this new mission by Very Rev Peter Bisson SJ, Provincial Superior of the Jesuits in English Canada, and missioned by Delegate to the Superior General and Major Superior of the International Roman Houses, Very Rev Joseph Daoust SJ. With this appointment, Fr Fogarty becomes a member of the Roman Delegation which is comprised of Jesuits from around the world who make up the international houses, apostolates and colleges associated with the General Curia and Very Rev Adolfo Nicolás, Superior General of the Society of Jesus.
On the Feast of St Ignatius, 31 July 2013, Fr Fogarty will finish his term as President of St Paul’s High School. Upon completing seven years of service to the St Paul’s community, Father will transition from Winnipeg to New York City in early August. After some sabbatical time he will report to Rome to meet with other members of the Roman Delegation, become acquainted with the three Rectors of the Consortium and study Italian in preparation for assuming his new responsibilities with the Foundation located at America House, New York City.
On behalf of Mr Gene Rainis, Chairman of the Gregorian University Foundation Board of Trustees, Fr Peter Bisson and Fr Joseph Daoust on behalf of Fr Adolfo Nicolás, heartfelt prayers and welcome are offered to Fr Fogarty to the Gregorian University Foundation and the Roman Delegation. May he be blessed in his new role as President of the Foundation as he assumes this mission in service to the universal Society and to the universal Church.
