Job Posting: Director of Advancement & Alumni Affairs

Founded in 1926, St Paul’s High School is a Catholic, independent university preparatory school for young men owned and operated by the Society of Jesus - the Jesuits in English Canada.  Part of a worldwide network of Jesuit schools recognized for excellence in education, spiritual formation and leadership, St Paul's has its roots in a system that reaches back more than 450 years to the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius de Loyola and the first Jesuit school founded in Messina, Italy, in 1548.

The Director of Advancement & Alumni Affairs is responsible for leading the St Paul’s High School Advancement and Alumni program and reports to the President of the School.  The Director will also be responsible for developing and maintaining active and productive relationships with all stakeholders including, Board Members, Donors, Administration, Alumni and Friends.

Specific areas of responsibility include

Fundraising

  • Works closely with the President in building relationships with major donors and key benefactors
  • Designs, implements and manages all fundraising activities including annual giving, bursary endowment fund and capital campaigns, special projects, and other school-related appeals
  • Manages all strategies and activities for donor cultivation, solicitation and relations
  • Maintains contact with and develops grant proposals for foundations and corporations
  • Develops and implements parent and class-based fundraising programs within the annual giving program
  • Develops a comprehensive planned-giving program as the need becomes appropriate

Board of Directors

  • Works with the finance and fundraising committees to develop strategies to initiate and meet aggressive fundraising goals 
  • Assumes responsibility for all advancement and alumni reports to the Board and other agencies, and attends all Board meetings

Advancement Office

  • Manages and supervises advancement staff
  • Creates office systems to support all advancement projects and operations
  • Supervises donor and gift record-keeping
  • Coordinates development research activities
  • Oversees the management of databases and all records, files, and gift processing
  • Manages the pledge reminder and acknowledgement programs

Alumni Affairs

  • Oversees the management of the alumni database
  • Organizes and supports alumni events, collects news and information about the members of the alumni for publication, and keeps accurate records of the school’s alumni

Public Relations, Marketing, and Advertising

  • Works closely with the President to develop a public relations plan and an advertising plan
  • Designs and oversees production of all major publications, including the Crusader Magazine, the Annual Giving Report and website development
  • Creates and implements a communication and promotional plan for annual giving and capital campaigns
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of the annual Ignatian Challenge Award Tribute Dinner

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of business, marketing or non-profit management with a minimum of 3 years professional fundraising experience, preferably in a Catholic environment
  • Proven experience in designing and managing advancement and alumni relations programs
  • Experience with developing and maintaining productive working relationships with board members, donors, parents, administrators and faculty
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work as a leader and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to manage different projects simultaneously
  • Strong religious conviction and practice would be an asset
