THE GOSPELS AND THE BOOK OF ACTS FROM THE WORLD RENOWNED ST. JOHN’S BIBLE.

St. Paul's High School is pleased to host a portion of the lecture series A LIVING TRADITION: WORD, IMAGE, AND SYNESTHESIA.

ABOUT THE LECTURES
It often has been said that Catholics do not know the Bible, especially in comparison with the biblical literacy evidenced by other Christian denominations. While it is true that when pressed, a typical Catholic’s inability to find any particular book, chapter, and verse can be embarrassing, this truism all too often ignores what history, art, and culture have shown us. Over the centuries, many Catholics have proven that they know a great deal about the Bible without ever realizing that they do. How has this happened?

In this year’s Hanley Lecture Series, Fr. Michael Patella will outline some of the sign posts of the Catholic encounter with Sacred Scripture, and using examples from The Saint John’s Bible, will present the hallmarks of a Catholic hermeneutic that can be utilized for furthering the Catholic interpretation of Scripture.

SPEAKER: MICHAEL PATELLA OSB, SSB
Fr. Michael Patella made his solemn profession as a Benedictine monk of Saint John’s Abbey in Minnesota in 1989 and was ordained a priest in 1990. He holds a Doctorate in Sacred Scripture from the École biblique et archéologique française in Jerusalem. He served as the chair of the Committee on Illumination and Text for The Saint John’s Bible. Fr. Michael is a professor of New Testament at Saint John’s University.
