Update: April 15, 2019

The Ernie Ostermann Graduand Golf Tournament is a little under 6 weeks away. We are looking forward to excellent day of fun and fellowship on the course at Bel Acres Golf & Country Club on May 23rd. Thank you to all who have already handed in their registration forms. For those of you who have yet to hand in registration forms, the deadline for registrations was April 11th (this past Friday!). This date has been extended. We know there are many who have made requests for pairings but have not handed in your registration. Please present your completed registration form with payment to Ms. Lewis at the school office and note that all pairing requests will be accommodated wherever possible, it almost always works out. We will do our best to accommodate you.

For those of you waiting to register for other reasons, please note that the registration deadline has been extended until April 26th but this is the absolute deadline as we cannot accept any registrations after this date. We would appreciate receiving your completed forms ASAP. Thank you for your cooperation. Please remember the tournament focuses on celebrating the relationship and the importance of a mentor’s role in a graduand’s life and it is a special day to celebrate your journey together.

An overview of the Ernie Ostermann Graduand Golf Tournament including the different ways to participate and pricing is found on the attached registration form. Complete details of the days events are found in the attached Golf Communique. Please note that there are Magis funds available for the golf tournament and it is our wish that everyone who would like to enjoy this fabulous day has the opportunity to participate. The Golf Course is located 5.3 KMs north of the Perimeter Highway on Sturgeon Road (Phone: 204.632.8337).

Bel Acres Golf & Country Club - Google Maps Link

If there are any dietary restrictions, please notify us no later than Tuesday May 21st, and we will make arrangements for the Lunch & Dinner. The club may not be able to accommodate special meal requests the day of the event.

The day will begin with with Registration and Lunch starting at 11:00 AM on the Patio.

***The tournament will take place RAIN OR SHINE as we do not have the ability to reschedule***

We ask the players to start making to their way their golf carts and assigned holes at 12:30 for a 1:00pm “Shotgun” Start.

We are also planning a contest for the “Most Distinctive Foursome”. Feel free to be creative and expressive!

To keep the play moving efficiently, we will be following a Modified Scramble Format:

  • All Players Tee-off on each hole.
  • The team choses the best shot to play from.
  • The 3 players not selected hit the next shot.
  • This process is repeated until you are on the green.
  • ***The only restriction is that a player who is selected as the preferred shot cannot hit on the next shot***
  • ALL players will putt.

Our goal is to keep the foursomes moving quickly as we have a full tournament.   This format also ensures that everyone on the team contributes regardless of skill level. There is no quota on individual drives.  Teams may elect to not use the “best” drive and have their best player available for the second shot.

Please ensure you follow the etiquette rules of the golf course. If you are unsure, please ask.

Some additional reminders:

  • Golf club rentals must be arranged and paid for separately at the Pro Shop.
  • Reminder that alcohol will not be available on the course (this is a school policy).
  • Dinner-only guests should plan to arrive at 5:30. (There may be a slight delay as we cannot predict exact golf finish)
  • If there is an urgent need to reach either Tom or Andre during the tournament, please call our cell numbers below. Obviously, if there is a medical emergency, please call 911. There will also be a Committee Member on a roving golf cart during the tournament available to assist you.

While this is a golf tournament, the main focus of the day is quality time with your son and lots of fun!

We are looking forward to a great day, see you there!

March 4, 2019

Dear Parents, Guardians and Graduands,

Each 2019 graduand and an invited mentor are welcome to attend the Ernie Ostermann Graduand Golf Tournament at Bel Acres Golf and Country Club (1200 Sturgeon Road, North Inkster) on Thursday, May 23, 2019 – 1 PM Shotgun Start.  There will be a BBQ lunch in the patio area from 11 AM – 1 PM (lunch is included), dinner will begin at approximately 6 PM.  The mentor can be the father, mother, older brother, stepfather, stepmother, aunt, uncle, grandfather, grandmother or another other adult who has taken a mentoring role in the graduand’s life.

This is an event for the entire Class of 2019 - the goal is to have as many graduands join us whether they are playing in the tournament or volunteering for the day.

There are 111 students in the Class of 2019.  If each graduand was to register and bring a mentor that would equal 222 golfers.  A maximum of 144 spots are available.  Please note that there is no rain date and no refunds will be provided unless the tournament is cancelled due to weather conditions.  Reservations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis with payment covering the costs of the event.  Please make your cheque payable to St. Paul’s High School.  Subsequent to receiving reservations, a waiting list will be maintained.  Please bring your forms and payment to Ms. Lewis at the President’s office.

There are not enough spaces for everyone to golf.  We would, however, like to see a high participation level. Grade 12 volunteers are required to assist with the tournament. Lunch will be provided for student volunteers. It is our hope that mentors will be able to join the student volunteers for dinner.

The cost is $140 per player.  This fee includes lunch, green fees, cart, dinner and prizes.  Club rentals are available and range between $30 - $60 per set.

Graduands and mentors not participating in golf are invited to attend dinner. The cost for the dinner only is $60 per person.

This year we will be having:

  • A charity putting contest with the proceeds going to the Class of 2019 Bursary
  • Closest to the Hole Mentor and Closest to the Hole Graduand
  • Contest for Most Outrageous Outfit grad and mentor
  • Modified Texas Scramble Format
  • Longest Drive Mentor and Longest Drive Graduand Contest
  • BBQ lunch in the patio area from 11 AM – 1 PM
  • Sit down buffet dinner after golf
