Mission Week 2 in Support of OGIJIITA PIMATISWIN KINAMATAWIN (O.P.K.)

Attention Parents of St. Paul’s Students, Mission Week Two is Upon Us!

The Maroon and White Society will be hosting Mission Week 2 in support of Ogijiita Pimatiswin Kinamatawin (OPK), an organization dedicated to supporting, nurturing, and walking with at-risk youth and families in Winnipeg (https://www.opkmanitoba.com/). Serving one of the nation’s most impoverished neighbourhoods, OPK works with those who are in a vulnerable state and in need of assistance, with a focus on Indigenous men and youth. The Maroon and White Society, alongside the St. Paul’s community, would like to support OPK in their programming with two of the Universal Apostolic Preferences at its core; Walking with the Marginalized and Journeying with Youth Towards a Hope-filled Future. As part of fulfilling this goal, Mission Week programming will focus on educating students on poverty, and the role education and mentorship play in reconciliation. Fundraising campaigns will also be held to support the wonderful work done by OPK, including their weekly walks handing out food and essentials to the homeless in our city, mentorship, and development of young people.

What's Happening:
Throughout the week there will be various initiatives and events to support OPK such as a Concert called the "Benefit Bash” and a Pizza Lunch!

The Benefit Bash Concert is on Friday, March 8th as a part of Mission Week in support of OPK Manitoba. Students & parents from St. Paul’s, St. Mary’s, and Balmoral Hall are invited to attend! The event will take place in Murray Hall, admission is $5, and the concert will include performances by both St. Mary’s and St. Paul’s students! Students must place an order using the QR codes posted around the school, then come and pay at the pizza booth to confirm their order!

Bannock Sale - Students may also purchase bannock beginning on March 4thand are encouraged to “buy one, give one”. Bannock with toppings is available for $2 with the option to donate an additional $1 for bannock that will be handed out during OPK’s weekly outreach walks.

The Maroon & White is looking for volunteers to join them in preparing sandwiches and accompanying OPK on Wed. March 13th. Interested students should visit the Maroon & White volunteer station at lunch.

The Maroon & White Society is looking forward to a fantastic mission week and encourages all students to find ways to become involved, support OPK and educate themselves about the challenges faced by many living in Winnipeg. We’re grateful for your support!

Friday, 8 March: International Women's Day

A Prayer for International Women's Day

Gracious and Loving God,

In the spirit of St. Ignatius, we thank You for the gift of women worldwide, celebrating their dignity, strength, and contributions. On this International Women's Day, help us see Your image in every woman and honor their worth. Bless mothers, daughters, sisters, and leaders with courage, strength, and joy. May they realize their potential and shape a world filled with justice and compassion.

Enlighten us to challenge structures that oppress women, inspired by Ignatian values of justice and peace. Through Mary's example, guide us to support women's rights and value their contributions, striving for a society where every woman is respected. May we all work together for a world that mirrors Your kingdom of love, justice, and peace.

Amen.

Winter Sports Day

On Tuesday, March 19th, 2024, the St. Paul’s High School Student Council will be hosting our annual Winter Sports Day! Students will have the opportunity to choose one (1) our of thirteen (13) activity choices to participate in, as well as activities in the MultiPlex in the afternoon. Further details about each morning activity are listed in the attached document.

The day will begin with attendance at 9:00 am for all students. From there, students will participate in activities outside of the school, returning for the ‘St. Paul’s Olympics’ event in the afternoon. Except for those whose activity station is at the school, all students will depart the school after 9:00 am and will be bussed to the activity they have chosen. All students will return to the school at approximately 12:00 pm for lunch. Lunch will take place between 12:00-1:15 pm. All students will then participate in the ‘St. Paul’s Olympics’ in the MultiPlex until ~2:45-3:00 pm, after which they will be dismissed.

Attendance is mandatory as this is an all-school event. If a student fails to register for one of the activities by the end of the day on Tuesday, March 12th that student will be assigned all-day (9:00 am - 3:00 pm) study hall. Students attending study hall will not be permitted to participate in the Olympics’ events in the afternoon.

A link for the Permission Click form will be emailed on Monday, March 4th. This link will allow you to register your son(s) online for his chosen morning activity, grant permission for him to participate in Winter Sports Day, as well as sign a waiver/acknowledgement of risk form on his behalf. Fees collected on Permission Click include the activity fee, bus fee, and processing fee. This year, all payments will be made through Permission Click. The deadline to sign up is Tuesday, March 12th.

All events will be filled on a first come, first served basis. A spot for your son’s activity will not be guaranteed until a Permission Click form is completed. This includes any activity that requests students to enter as teams (hockey and basketball). All members of the team must be registered in order for that team to be made. If there are students registered without a team, they will be placed on a team. Students should bring their team roster to Ms. Rellinger in Room 127 ASAP once a Permission Click form has been completed.

If there is are any issues with Permission Click or questions about the day, please contact Ms. Keana Rellinger, Student Council Moderator, at krellinger@stpauls.mb.ca.

Yours truly,
