Tuesday, 11 November: Remembrance Day

School Closed.

Importance of Remembrance

While November is recognized as a time of Remembrance for many across Canada, Remembrance is a year-long commitment. There are many opportunities available to anyone wishing to show their appreciation for those who served. Most importantly, we should all take a moment now and then to reflect on the freedoms and peace in our lives, to remember the men and women who served and sacrificed for all we have today, and to pray for peace and eternal rest for all who lost their lives protecting the freedoms of Canadians. Lest We Forget.

Prayer Requests

The Church has dedicated November as a time of prayer for the deceased. If you have any deceased friends or family members you would like to be remembered in prayer at the weekday liturgies at the school, feel free to send an email to Fr. Con Mulvihill, St. Paul's High School Chaplain, at cmulvihill@stpauls.mb.ca

The names of senders and of the deceased will be confidential.

Prayer of Remembrance

Lord our God,

Today we remember times of war, times when men and women served our nation, and fought and died so that we might live in freedom.

We are thankful for the sacrifices that our soldiers, sailors, and aircrew made so that their brothers and sisters and the generations that followed them could live in peace.

We recall those who served far away, and those who served at home, and we thank them for what they have done to hold high the torch and take up the struggle against evil.

We thank you, Lord, for those who serve today in the armed forces, and we humbly pray that you keep them safe and make their labours a force for peace in the world.

May all nations and peoples on earth live together as one family–to care so that no one will be oppressed or afflicted by violence–to love and respect one another despite our differences, so that freedom might be a reality and that your Kingdom may be realized in our world.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Hamper Drive in Support of Sabu’s Cubs

Starting November 12th there will be a hamper drive in support of Sabu's Cubs. It is another freezing winter in Winnipeg, where sadly some people will not have the clothes necessary to stay warm. The Maroon & White Society are looking for donations of new clothing articles. This includes socks of all sizes (especially children's & women’s socks) as well as mitts, gloves, kids' toys, snacks, hygiene supplies, and kids' clothing. Please ensure that the donations are new. These donations are a great help for all people receiving aid from Sabu’s Cubs and will hopefully spark some holiday cheer throughout the upcoming winter months. The hamper will be located out front of the Cass gym from 8:00 until 8:30. From there, the donation spot will migrate to the library. Thank you all for the donations and happy holidays!
